Get The Gist™

May 10, 2012 9 comments

HulloMail promotes convenience. What with the sending, receiving and sharing of your voicemails being an instant process, would it be possible to make our app even better? After hearing the feedback from our loyal consumers, we came up with a solution to make the receiving and checking of voicemails an even simpler process. This is an exciting moment for us all, as we can now proudly introduce our new and long-anticipated transcription feature, Scribe™ !

ImageScribe™ is HulloMail’s new transcription service, which has a fun and interesting product under its name –  Get The Gist™, which transcribes the first 10 seconds of your voicemails, using only machines (yes no humans), to give you the gist of what the message is about, before you’ve even listened to it. Ten seconds may not sound like a lot, however it only takes a few words to express a message, so Get The Gist™ has you perfectly covered. Picture how useful this will be where it’s inconvenient to pick up the phone, have a glance at your received message and … get the gist of it! Simple.

Available only to subscribers, Scribe – Get The Gist™ can be purchased via the in-app store for £1.49 for up to 50 messages, over 30 days. That’s $1.99 in the US and €1.59 in Ireland. As with other transcription services, Scribe™ aims for the most accurate transcriptions possible, however external factors have an influence and may affect the transcription of messages – a bad phone line for example.

Enjoy the new feature! It’s going to completely change how you experience your voicemail service, in a totally awesome way.

Welcome to The H-Factor!

December 1, 2011 Leave a comment

My intentions regarding my recent excitable outbursts on various social media sites have been to create the element of anticipation, wonder, and perhaps even mild confusion. I do believe that I have succeeded – if not on the excitement front then at least on confusing a great deal of people. Either way, you are all interested.

The good news is that I have not lead you all astray, and there is actually something worth your time behind all this build-up.
I present to you the HulloMail H-Factor Christmas Singing Competition!

I know what you’re thinking. “What a long-winded title…” Well to be perfectly honest with you it is simply known as ‘The H-Factor’, but some room has to be made for description. I would like to stress that The H-Factor is nothing like The X-Factor – at least not in the sense of name, nor the sense of employing a rather [incredibly] intimidating [deluded] judging panel. This is merely for some festive fun! There will be no real ‘judgement’ beyond that of deciding which entrant wins the prize.

Oh, did I forget to mention what the prize is? It’s an iPad 2 WiFi, you know, no big deal …

This is, after all, a Christmas competition – therefore all you have to do is send us your best renditions of your favourite Christmas carols, sung by you, via Hullo message!

The competition begins today and will finish at midnight (GMT) on the 3rd of January 2012, so you’ll need to warm up those vocal cords and get singing sharpish! Your recording can be one of yourself, a friend or family member, your children, a hobo on the street – anyone you like! Whoever has the best entry will win an iPad 2 Wifi plus a free subscription to HulloMail SmartVoicemail for one year – two runners up will also win a years’ subscription each.

The winner and the runners up will have their entries posted on the HulloMail Facebook page, for everyone to hear! What are you waiting for? A bus? NO. So get singing!

The Only Way is Old Street!

July 18, 2011 Leave a comment

Forget silicon implants we’re talking Silicon Roundabout.

The Only Way is Old Street (often abbreviated to TOWIOS), is a reality mini-series based in and around the ‘Silicon Roundabout ‘ area of East London, famous for it’s vast concentration of innovative start-up companies.  It shows real people in modified situations using HulloMail’s, multi-award winning, Smartvoicemail applications.

Episode one –  The Illness.  Jane has a few too many drinks with the girls.  Waking up the next morning, feeling terrible – Jane realises that work will be a miracle that day but can’t face calling her boss, in case he picks up.  She decides to use her HulloMail app to send a Hullo, a voicemail without making a call, to avoid a long conversation with her boss!

Episode two – The Goodbye.  Andy has been dating Ally for a few months but following a chat with Chris in the pub realises that he doesn’t want a relationship.  He decides he just can’t face the emotions of a break-up so sends a “goodbye’ Hullo, a voicemail without having to make the call.

Episode three – The Cancellation.  Mike offers Chris the opportunity of great seats at the forthcoming Arsenal game, only problem is Chris has a long-standing arrangement with some other friends.  He can’t face calling them all individually just for them to make him feel bad so decides to send a Hullo; a voicemail without having to make a call, that can be sent to multiple contacts at the same time. Problem solved!

>NEW for December 2010, Ad-supported and paid-for HulloMail Applications

December 14, 2010 Leave a comment

>You will have received an email this week announcing some slight changes to our HulloMail applications, so we thought we would take this opportunity to provide you with a little more information.
We’re committed to providing a free service and to continue to do this, this week, we are introducing advertising to our popular Android, BlackBerry and iPhone applications.  The advertising is visual and not audio, and will be included in the central message list and the message detail screen on the Android and iPhone.  For the BlackBerry, the ads will only appear on the central message list due to the lack of a message detail screen.
We understand that not everyone wants advertising so we’re also introducing ad-free, paid-for versions of all our apps. These apps will contain no advertising and will be the first in-line to receive new features planned for 2011 such as enhanced group messaging, further personalisation options and message management tools.
The price of the ad-free app is £3.99, $6.99 or €5.49 for the year depending on your country, which is the equivalent of just pence or cents per week!
This week the ads will be turned-on automatically so to keep using the free service you don’t need to do anything.  If you have already decided that ads aren’t for you then you need to delete the current version of the app from your phone, search for HulloMail Smart Voicemail in your app store, purchase it and install in the usual way –  signing in with your normal account details.  You will notice that the paid-for, ad-free versions of the applications have a different icon.

Any problem you can find the answer in the FAQ section of the website or contact support@hullomail.com who are always happy to help.

>The History and Future of Voicemail

>The History of Voicemail
Some of you may think that HulloMail invented voicemail however we can not take that crown!  While doing some research into the history of voicemail prior to taking part in the Future of Voicemail series with Mobile Industry Review last month, we came across some interesting facts about voicemail that we thought we would share.
Many people believe the father of voicemail was Gordon Matthews.  Gordon was born in 1936 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and was an American inventor and businessman and started one of the first companies which pioneered the commercialisation of voicemail, VMX.  However the first recorded inventor of this technology was a Stephan Boies of IBM which is documented five years before VMX was founded. Gordon however was granted the first voicemail patent in 1979 for his voicemail invention and sold the first system to 3M. Subsequent sales of the service were to corporations such as Kodak, American Express and Intel.
The History of HulloMail
HulloMail, was formed in 2008, however our journey began back in 1999, when our CEO, on a flight back from Dublin, designed a web solution to allow his family to send him emails by simply using their phone. We believed consumers would benefit from having access to their email from any telephone.  We built a platform and signed up our first customer almost from day one.  Since these early days we have deployed our technology globally and have a wealth of experience in voice, video and related services. After years of working successfully alongside telco businesses, we realised that the services being demanded by consumers were not being addressed by operators because of the technology and feature focus inherent in these organisations. In 2006, we began to evolve our business model to address these consumer demands. This evolution has brought us to where we are today, a customer-led innovation business.
The Future of Voicemail
This has been a popular topic of late as consumers are demanding better voice messaging experiences that their new powerful devices can provide.  In order to get a broad perspective, Mobile Industry Review suggested a series of interviews with key stakeholders in the voice messaging eco-system to assess the future of this important feature which is somewhat taken for granted.  View the full series here
Our CEO provides some great insights into the future of voicemail – check out what he has to say!

>Next stop Ireland

>Top o’the morning to ya!
Late last week testing began of HulloMail in Ireland.  We have managed to recruit a band of testers in the Republic who have kindly agreed to be our ‘guinea pigs’ in market.  We have given this intrepid group access to the Android and BlackBerry apps with iPhone to follow this week, so they can put the service through it’s paces.
You have probably noticed that we have amended the HulloMail website recently to incorporate Ireland so all the details are there for when we launch the service shortly.
The Hullo Family are getting excited about filming their summer special in Dublin which will be available for launch, so watch this space.

You may ask why Ireland and not another country? Here at HulloMail we get regular requests to expand our service into new territories so that other countries can enjoy the benefits of HulloMail, particularly where operators don’t support visual voicemail on any phones.
The decision was made to launch in Ireland first because we have strong links with the country and the potential user base is considerable.
When the service goes live in the coming weeks it will be available to all Irish BlackBerry, Android and iPhone users regardless of which operator they’re with as all will be supported.  Unfortunately users on a pay as you go tariff will still not be able to use the service unless their operator supports unconditional diverts.
We will let you know how testing goes, but all is looking good so far.

We are pleased to announce the launch of our version 2.2Android app. The enhanced app builds on the existing voicemail and features thenew Hullo instant voice messaging technology, which has already been a big hitwith our iPhone and BlackBerry users.

‘Hullos’ are short voice messages that enableusers to reply to a voicemail or to send new instant voice messages withouthaving to make a phone call.  As aHulloMail subscriber, most Android Smartphone users cannow enjoy this powerful two-way digital messaging capability free of charge, both locally and overseas*, when they download the enhanced HulloMail app.
Andy Munarriz, our founder & CEO, said: “Our goal at HulloMailis focused on buildingout voicemail into two way voice messaging. We are driven by impulses to speak. All modes of communication have their uses but voice is still up there as oneof the clearest, if not the clearest form of communication. Hullos streamline voice messaging for the SmartPhone generation makingvoice as simple as texting or emailing.”

In addition to incorporating Hullos, the Android app also offers users the option to displaymissed calls, the opportunity to copy messages directly to registered email addressesand also the ability to access existing messages whilst offline. The servicecontinues to offer unique message syncing capabilities with email compliantaccounts, such as Gmail.

The HulloMail Android app is currentlyavailable to both UK and US users and can be downloaded for free from theHulloMail Web site at http://www.hullomail.com or from the Android marketplace.
